"Sangüich" is a pronunciation of the word "sandwich" most commonly used by Spanish-speakers. It is a word I grew up using at home, it represents my first language, Spanglish, and reminds me where I fit into this world.
What do you see in the "ü"? Is it a smiley face, or two people in an embrace?
ACAB Donuts makes vegan donuts to raise funds for local mutual aid efforts. The letters on the logo are designed to resemble donuts--much like how the donuts are made to resemble the letters A-C-A-B.
I designed 2 logos for the Alejandro for Iowa Senate campaign. The English-language logo is inspired by the fonts commonly used by psychedelic rock bands of the 60s and 70s. This worked very well with the colorful aesthetics of the campaign. The Spanish-language logo is inspired by the political campaign murals found throughout the walls of the cities in Mexico.
Precision Adjusting Group provides insurance adjusting services. The shapes represent the seamless, accurate, and "precise" nature of their work. Can you find the hidden "P", "A", and "G" in the logo icon?
Banda la Nueva Perla del Sur is a Des Moines-based music group playing Regional Mexican "Banda" music. The sousaphone is instrumental (pun intended) to the Banda sound. Inside of the horn, you will find a pearl or "Perla" which further helps represent the roots of the band.
Precious Home is a halfway house based in Florida. The "steps" along the side of the house icon represent the mission of the organization to help residents and clients grow and achieve their goals.
what can i say? trains and buses are cool. cars are expensive, loud, bad for the environment, and, to be honest, kinda ugly. more people should be talking about that.
i don't know anything about car racing but i love a vintage racing t-shirt. Inspired by a long-sleeve mock neck t-shirt i found at a random thrift store, this t let's us look cool while showing our love for public transportation.
les·bi·an /ˈlezbēən/ noun a non-man attracted to non-men
Golf courses cause irreparable damage to it's surrounding ecosystem. They are a waste of water, land, and resources. Not to mention all of the shady politicking that goes on. Why do our presidents spend so much time out there? Let's restore the land and bring back the beautiful critters that once roamed it.
This crop-top design was inspired by NYPD vehicles decorated for PRIDE that read, "All Colors Are Beautiful." Intentional or not, the phrase secretly reads "ACAB" thus making a statement against the police. The rainbow and rainbow-colored flames further celebrate PRIDE and the clashes that the queer movement has had with police throughout history.
This t-shirt was inspired by bootleg t-shirts of country artists in the 80s and 90s. After hearing a right-winger mockingly say "My pronouns are yee-haw!" in a web clip of a rally, I chose to co-opt the phrase as one that helps me and others celebrate our queer identities.
These stickers and fanny packs have been a hit for ACAB Donuts! In a bold expression of their critique towards law enforcement and oppressive institutions, the fanny pack features a pattern of molotov cocktails, pig heads, and flowers in a propaganda stencil style, a signature style I use in many of my designs.
This design was designed for Iowa Migrant Movement for Justice as a protest statement against the violent immigration enforcement system in the United States. This design was inspired by the "Have a nice day!" plastic grocery bags.
The "No Walls, No Cages" design for Iowa Migrant Movement for Justice features a raised fist and a call to end the violence at our southern border.
Think Grateful Dead meets SpongeBob SquarePants. These campaign t-shirts were printed white on white. This allowed the campaign to host "tie-dye" parties where supporters could buy and dye alongside the candidate. This was so much fun!
People love to stick stickers on things. The "yee-haw" sticker has been a great option for folks as a companion purchase with the "yee-haw" t-shirt as well as a fun option for folks on a tighter budget. The "melting earth" sticker is just cute and impactful.
For the state senate campaign I created 4 sticker designs to further help illustrate a creative vision. Like much of my work, these designs mix cute colors with bold and impactful text.
This poster best illustrates the stencil collage style that I have adopted. The scene depicts protesters in Mexico taking to the streets fighting for reproductive rights.
similar to my other poster design, this design is a propaganda-inspired stencil collage but with a cute spin to it. the bright colors further highlight the juxtaposition between the bold punchline "abolish ice" with the fun nature of the setup.
these yard signs were very well received. they stood out as being unlike anything seen in other campaigns. to this day we continue to receive positive feedback about this design. they were also much easier to read at night, so that was a major plus!
yard signs don't win campaigns. that said, this campaign garnered an unprecedented win over an incumbent councilmember. the creative direction of the campaign helped legitimize it and complimented the powerful messages that the campaign was communicating.
this campaign was truly grassroots and we used social media to build excitement and momentum. this campaign raised over $15,000 and defeated a well-connected incumbent while running on one of the most radical campaigns in the nation--a victory that national media could not ignore.
throughout the campaign, i ran the day-to-day operations for social media, traditional media, and graphic design. we established an aesthetic that showed the candidate's fun and cute side while not deviating too far from the important things that she had to say.
during the campaign, the @ale4iowa (now repurposed as a personal account) received over 164k likes largely from this viral tiktok watched by 992k people as well as a shortened version of the video below.
i was able to put this video together with essentially a $0 budget. across youtube and social media this ad reached over 50k people.
this political campaign was heavily driven by it's graphic design as well as it's use of virtual and in-person events. by creating accessible and family-friendly events and by using social media and eye-catching graphics, the campaign was able to establish a presence that opponents could not ignore.
creating graphics for this campaign really allowed me to discover and hone in on my style. this coffee shop tour was a fun way to engage with the community, and show off a bit more of my creative side that many were not familiar with.
as someone who grew up during the height of myspace, i have wanted to recreate a myspace profile page for quite some time. as someone who also has fond memories of this era, bridget was the perfect candidate to showcase in this fashion.
buffalo rebellion is a coalition of iowa-based organizations working to build a movement for climate action. for this website, i worked with illustrator moselle singh to build a fun interactive and informative site to showcase what the organization is about.
this is the site you're on now!! take a look around.
